7:22 pm - Farewell
After a weeklong mass debate over the fate of this LiveJournal account, I've decided not to delete it. I will however retire it. It will stay up as a record of many years of memories both fond and fucked, and I will start afresh with a new Friends Only journal, with a much smaller Friends List. (Note the judicious use of capital letters.) Part of what's being recorded is the huge population of LJ Friends I've accumulated over the years. There was drama, joy, fornication and a whole lot of random conversation with many Fine Upstanding Citizens and Kindred Users of Pills (or FUCKUPs for short). Many of these FUCKUPs I can't put a face to, have never known their real names, and if I meet them socially, they have to re-introduce themselves. These interactions are, I feel, best left in the real world, where your day to day lives are compressed into pill form and gleaned on a need-to-know basis. I haven't been reading many (if any) of the entries on my Friends List, as I have other things I'd rather spend my time on, and those whose entries I would like to read often get ignored as a result (of my laziness).

I'll be picking up some of the pieces, and taking them to a new journal. Those who do want to continue to be a part of my electronic macrocosm, drop me a comment and I'll comment in turn with the new account.

My final word to everyone else is always remember, no matter how perfect you think you are, you still need to wipe your arse, just like everyone else. (Bidets and personal wiping technique aside.)

6:39 pm - Help! I 'm drowning in disgust!
Trivia on the upcoming (in 2007) Night Watch 3 (Dusk Watch):

Filmed in English, since it is co-financed by Fox, whereas the first two parts of the trilogy were made in Russian.

God no... leave art alone. Can we please bomb America out of existence? You know... the whole "Nuke the site from orbit" cliche? It's the only way to be sure!

7:49 pm - Night Watch update
What I've heard of the English dub is lame, but there is worse to come, it seems.

If you watch the undubbed version (in which the narrator is still dubbed, so it's not completely untainted,) the subtitles include sound effects etc for the hard of hearing.

They did the same thing with Innocence (Ghost in the Shell 2, to those not in the know,) and it damaged sales in America BIGTIME. I can only hope that Madman are smart enough not to repeat that mistake with their Australian release of Innocence coming out on the 29th. I know that includes an English dub, but since I first saw Ghost in the Shell on English VHS, I shouldn't let that upset me too much... until I've heard the voice acting. (Watch this space.)

I'm actually on the verge of returning this DVD, or at least writing a polite yet persuasively worded correspondence to Fox Searchlight Films (or whatever the fuck the division is called) which released this DVD.

Not satisfied. Is this some kind of fucked up conspiracy on the part of Hollywood filmmakers to sabotage the success of another country's films being successfully marketed to Westerners?

And while we're fucking at it, I renounce the term "Westerners" in describing Australians. We're in the same lateral hemisphere as Asia. America is the West.

6:42 pm - Nochnoi Dozor
Today, Night Watch (the Russian vampire blockbuster, not the crappy Ewan McGregor flick) was released on DVD in Australia, and I bought it.

I'm borderline apalled that they dubbed it into English, but I'll reserve my judgement until after I've watched it all the way through.

I'm very disappointed that they didn't include the fancy animated open caption subtitles used in the Russian language cinema release, like when they screened it (briefly) in Sydney. I was looking forward to seeing that again. Maybe another version will reach the market, or perhaps that was a cinema only experience that I'll never be able to get on DVD.

Oh well.

In any case, anyone who has not seen Night Watch, must see it. Anyone who has seen it, probably wouldn't mind seeing it again.

I don't think I have a single friend who wouldn't just use me when I'm convenient to them, and ignore me when I'm not.

Prove me wrong if you can.

8:47 pm - Is this some attempt at entrapment?
Centrelink appears to have mistakenly paid me about $900 when I should not be receiving a payment.

Am I their one millionth customer or something???

I think I'd best call them and bring it to their attention on Monday, and resist spending the money.

11:07 pm - Curse you George Lucas!!!
They revoiced Boba Fett??

Righteously indignant on Jeremy Bulloch's behalf!

So what if he didn't have a Kiwi accent?

Maybe Boba spent the rest of his life around people without Temuerra Morrison's accent, and lost it! Heaven forbid he sound like he can act!

I was suspicious earlier on that the emperor sounded like he'd been revoiced. It seems I was right. In fact, it's possible it was a different actor in the images too! I'm digging up my old videos. This is no way to experience this movie.

6:09 pm - Check the warning label
I am a depressive.

I am not currently medicated.

As such, I must acknowledge this when my thoughts are chasing my emotions down a slippery slope.

It's important when all my brain can conclude is, "Here's a broken bottle, Lord, send me to Hell." that I make sure I keep a check on whether the feelings behind it are rational.

Of course, rational or not, the feelings are there, and I have to deal with them.

There are very few panaceas at my disposal to temper them.

Rarely is it that the emotions that come unbidden are positive ones.

Often I am forced to also employ panaceas (including avoidance) to nullify the positive ones.

You'll have to forgive me if I sometimes feel bitter towards those whose irrational emotions make them happy.

With mine it's a shitfight just to enjoy things I've enjoyed for years.

Tomorrow (20th of February) is my birthday.

Since I'm not having any kind of celebrations this year, I encourage everyone to think about me the next time they have sex, masturbate, or otherwise indulge in one of their favourite vices.

6:05 pm - The Good Word...
There's a sign on Showground Rd in Castle Hill that says:

JESUS (enclosed in a picture of a fish)
The Best Gift of All

... but since it was behind a lamp post when I saw it, it seemed to say:

The Best of All

The Infinite Teen Slang Dictionary

adj. desirable but not happy.
"Are you as Lemming as I am, man?"

Hmm... ask me a week or two ago, sure. Apart from a self-induced lack of sleep last night, things are pretty good.

It's past 1am.
